Have you ever wondered how you can help our smallest patients in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)? Mission Health’s Volunteer Engagement team recently began a monthly tradition with their Sewing Day! On the first Friday of every other month, the public and team members are encouraged to come make a big difference in our smallest patients’ lives.
A big impact for our smallest patients
At Mission Health, we’re all about teamwork, so when the NICU team came to Volunteer Engagement with a challenge, they were ready to lend a helping hand. Did you know the sheets for NICU cribs are specially designed to fit the smaller size of these cribs? Because of this specialty, NICU crib sheets are more expensive. Our NICU team was curious if our Volunteer Engagement team could get crafty and make the sheets for our NICU patients as a way to cut down on costs.
The Volunteer Engagement team found the opportunity in this challenge and decided to make a day out of it! Every Tuesday, the team gets together and creates unique crib sheets for the NICU department, but they didn’t want to stop there! Our Volunteer Engagement team knows how much other team members and the community love to help our smallest patients and decided to create a volunteer event where anyone can come and help make NICU sheets. Hence the beginning of Sewing Friday!
