“I’ve had several people who have questioned me as to why we are affiliated with Mission,” says Harold Walker, Manager of Retail Banking for Marion’s First Citizens Bank, as well as board member for Mission Hospital McDowell. “It was pretty easy to answer that, we couldn’t have existed as an independent hospital. The revenues are not enough to purchase new equipment to stay up with the new regulations, so being affiliated with Mission Hospital, they are able to help us through when we couldn’t have done that by ourselves.”
Mission Health is investing more than $48 million in the Mission Hospital McDowell campus to ensure the continuation of healthcare services in a modern facility. The new facility will feature expanded emergency room services, larger inpatient rooms and state-of-the-art equipment. The campus will provide a focus on outpatient care and a continuation of healthcare services that supports a regional network of care and ensures access to care in a sustainable manner.
“This is the best thing that could have happened to this community,” says Walker. “This is going to be a hospital that’s going to last us for another thirty years, and we are going to have the best technology and the best people.”
The new Mission Hospital McDowell is expected to open on February 23, 2018.
