Karen Gorby: Turn to Angel Medical Center to Help Create a Healthier You for 2018

By Karen Gorby
President and CNO, Angel Medical Center

The beginning of a new year is a time when many resolve to be healthier – whether that means cooking lighter, exercising more, getting a full eight hours of sleep, or many other self-care practices. At Angel Medical Center, we are committed to supporting your health in 2018, and not just with the traditional medical care you associate with us. We offer numerous services to support your physical and emotional health, and include everything from weight management support to our monthly stroke and neurological disorder support group meetings to our online health advice on our Facebook page.

Did you know that we have a pulmonary and cardiac rehabilitation specialist on staff, who helps our patients with health challenges like chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), heart conditions, and asthma? AMC also employs a diabetic nurse educator to partner with diabetes patients in their care and to also help our community learn how to prevent diabetes.

AMC has dedicated therapists who serve our patients in need of occupational therapy, speech therapy, and physical therapy also provide critical services to our community. Our devoted occupational therapists help everyone from stroke patients to older patients recovering from surgery regain practical skills, like bathing and food preparation. They help to enhance quality of life so our patients can be as independent as possible. Our physical therapists assist patients with recovering from the pain and movement restrictions that may be caused by surgery or injury. And our speech therapists serve both children and adults suffering from speech conditions they were either born with, or acquired as the result of an accident or a stroke.

AMC even has its own Sleep Center where we can diagnose sleep disorders, such as sleep apnea, and help patients who suffer from insomnia! Our community is fortunate to have this resource, as we discover more and more just how much the quantity and quality of the sleep we get – or don’t get – impacts our overall physical and mental health and even our life expectancy.

In short, we want you to know that Angel Medical Center doesn’t just diagnose and treat hospitalized patients; we also partner with our community to ensure a better quality of life for many residents who aren’t within the walls of our hospital. Our talented and compassionate team members’ expertise means that Macon County residents can enjoy better health as they recover from illness or surgery, or who simply are adjusting to living with a health challenge.

You can depend on us for far more than routine or emergency care. Our wonderful allied health professionals and educators are here to provide critical health information and vital support to see patients and community members through their health transitions and challenges.
