Nike, GE, Apple, Exxon, McDonalds, Hilton – if you’re like me, all of these names immediately produce a crystal clear image of each company’s respective brand – and some of these may even have shown up in your Christmas stocking! A brand is a symbol and an icon – whether a mission statement, logo, or something else – that defines for the consumer what a business is and does. Branding is like the bow on a present; it surrounds something bigger and more complex with just one simple image or tagline. The “branding bow” that surrounds McDowell Hospital is quality. It conveys a message about the healthcare services we provide as part of Mission Health: high quality, compassionate care performed by highly trained clinicians who are supported by state-of-the-art technology and facilities.
In fact, the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) just released its Star Ratings for hospitals nationwide and The McDowell Hospital was one of three Mission Health Hospitals (and one of only ten hospitals in the State) to receive a prestigious 5 Star Rating. McDowell Hospital earned a top “A” rating in Patient Safety, and our team was acknowledged in the areas of infections and fall prevention, effective communication about medications and discharge instructions, and consistent handwashing practices – something our mothers already knew. Measurement periods occur each spring and fall, and we have received a stellar “A” grade for the past four measurement periods.
