Holiday time at Mission Health brings the annual visits from Scrubs the Elf – making his way around Mission Health locations across western North Carolina to showcase why each department should be on the North Pole’s “nice list.”
The first week of Scrubs’ journey around Mission Health included a day at the Mauzy-Phillips Center at Blue Ridge Regional Hospital. Scrubs the Elf had way too much turkey and sweets over the Thanksgiving Holiday, so he visited the Blue Ridge location of Mission My Care Now with a terrible tummy ache. The staff were so friendly and helpful. After a quick visit, Scrubs was feeling as good as new, and even got to pick a new toy from the treasure chest!
Scrubs then visited McDowell Hospital, where he spent time with the patient access team. He began his day shadowing with Meagan, one of our Patient Access Elves, and quickly took initiative to try and help out. He wound up in a sticky situation and then had to be registered and arm banded in the ED to undergo emergency tape removal.
Scrubs then appeared in Asheville, and had a very adventurous visit with Mission Family and Internal Medicine. He played in the copy machine, gave vaccines, took an “Elfie” photo, helped dictate a note, worked in triage and assisted with a Medicare Wellness Visit. After all of that excitement, he needed a little cat nap. He finished his day off having lollipops with the front desk.
Scrubs then continued his travels west, and spent a day at Pisgah Urology Associates in Brevard. He got a free work-up and learned how to work to maintain good urinary health and reduce chances of kidney stones. He hated to leave because he had the best time and learned so much, however, he knew he needed to continue to spread holiday cheer at other locations as well!
When Scrubs arrived at Highlands-Cashiers Hospital, the radiology team noticed something wasn’t quite right. They thought maybe his adventures across Mission Health had worn him out. Ultimately, Scrubs was diagnosed with too much holiday cheer – a wonderful diagnosis for anyone.
Happy Holidays from Scrubs the Elf, and all of us at Mission Health!
