Mission Health Announces Plan to Ensure Long-Term, World-Class Care to continue to Move Western North Carolina Healthcare Forward!

Mission Health’s Board of Directors is pleased to announce that Mission Health has entered into exclusive discussions to join HCA Healthcare later this year.  The Board’s unanimous decision reflects its long-term vision and commitment to preserve and expand Mission Health’s world-class quality of care.  This is very good news.

Because of the extraordinary demands on healthcare providers, mergers and acquisitions are taking place across our country and our state at an unprecedented pace. The Board, all of whom are local community members who care deeply about ensuring access to high quality care for the people of western North Carolina for many generations to come, knew that it was essential that we act from a position of strength to shape our desired future.

After a careful and thorough search, Mission Health’s Board believes that HCA is the right choice for Mission Health and western North Carolina.

“HCA Healthcare is a leading healthcare operator that offers advantages on a scale that would be difficult, if not impossible, to achieve otherwise,” Mission Health Board Chair Dr. John R. Ball, MD said.  “As important, the newly formed foundation will be life-changing for the residents of our region, providing tens of millions of dollars annually in new support for the most vulnerable.”

Importantly, both Mission Health and HCA Healthcare are founded on a shared commitment of “patient-first care” and service to their communities.  And, it is important to note that the mission, values and ethics are also shared. In fact, HCA Healthcare has been named one of the World’s Most Ethical Companies for nine years in a row.  The honor was bestowed upon them by the recognized global leader in advancing the standards of ethical business practices, the Ethisphere Institute.

“Mission Health has a more than 130-year tradition of caring for communities throughout western North Carolina, and we are excited to formalize discussions with them about how we can help continue their impressive legacy,” said Milton Johnson, HCA Healthcare’s Chairman and CEO. “As a healthcare provider founded by physicians 50 years ago, we appreciate the way Mission Health has served western North Carolina with a level of excellence that has earned national recognition as one of the top 15 healthcare systems in the country. We appreciate the opportunity to discuss becoming an integral part of their community.”

We are moving Mission Health forward, ensuring healthy, vibrant communities and world-class healthcare for future generations of western North Carolinians. Please visit missionhealthforward.org [1] to learn more about this exciting possibility.
