If you’re seeing lots of friends and family donning red, it’s important to know why. While most people know that February is Heart Month, many may not realize that heart disease is the No. 1 cause of death in women.
Wearing red helps raise awareness for heart disease in women, and we join together with others across the nation for National Wear Red Day on the first Friday of each February.
Some staggering statistics surround women and heart disease:
- Heart disease kills more women than all cancers combined.
- Heart disease and stroke cause 1 in 3 deaths among women each year.
- These conditions kill approximately one woman every 80 seconds.
The good news is that 80 percent of cardiac and stroke events are preventable, with the proper education and action.
Success stories of prevention are all around us – including Linda Johnson’s journey to heart health .
So, join us in wearing red to raise awareness.
Who will you wear red for?
