Dear Patients and Family Members,
As you may know from the joint statement , Mission Health and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (Blue Cross) have reached a new agreement. As a result, Mission Health providers are back in network with Blue Cross December 15th.
We reached this agreement with the mutual goal of ensuring that residents of western North Carolina are able to receive the safe, high-quality, affordable healthcare services they need. Although we wish that we had never needed to go out of network, we are grateful that patients can once again receive in-network access to all of Mission Health’s providers and facilities.
Having a contract dispute become public and needing to ask our patients and families to stand with us regarding a business issue is not something we ever wanted to do. But we believe the circumstances in this matter merited making the community aware of what was at stake, namely the long-term viability of Mission Health.
For more than 130 years, Mission Health has provided high-quality care for everyone in western North Carolina. This legacy drives our goal: to improve the health of the citizens of western North Carolina and provide needed care regardless of anyone’s ability to pay. That commitment stands strong today, and Mission stands with you. No matter what.
Our role as stewards of our community’s health and wellness is one we take very seriously. We challenged our prior agreement to preserve access to the high-quality, convenient and affordable care our region needs, delivered by people our patients have come to know and trust. We know our recently signed agreement with Blue Cross won’t be the end of the challenges we will face and need to overcome in our constantly changing healthcare landscape. But whatever comes our way, our number one priority is always you—our patients. We will never stop working to care for every person in western North Carolina and to ensure that you and your family have the reliable, high-quality and compassionate care you need.
As we transition back in network with Blue Cross, we will keep you updated and informed. We remain committed to being your partner in care—answering whatever questions you may have and providing the support you may need. We recognize that the past few months have been stressful for many, and we apologize for those concerns.
From our team members and your care teams, we thank you for your patience and support during this challenging time. If you have questions, please visit missionstandswithyou.org or call Mission Health at (828) 412-6052.
