ASHEVILLE, N.C. (Sept. 7, 2012) – Mission Health announced today that Asheville Cardiology Associates (ACA), its affiliated cardiology practice, will provide pediatric cardiology care in the Rutherfordton, North Carolina area beginning Oct. 3, 2012. Half-day clinics will be held monthly, at the Asheville Cardiology Associates office located at 128 Dr. Henry Norris Drive in Rutherfordton.
The cardiologist in charge of the pediatric clinic will be James J. McGovern, MD, FACC, who also serves as the Medical Director of Pediatric Cardiology for ACA and Mission Health. Terry W. Kersey, Jr., MD, FACC, a cardiologist with ACA and Mission Health, practices adult cardiology at the Henry Norris Drive location.
“We are pleased to offer specialized pediatric cardiology services to the residents of Rutherfordton,” said Dr. McGovern. “Offering specialty health care services throughout the region is an important aspect of our work. Convenience and proximity of care are critical factors in whether medical issues are detected and treated at an early stage. This pediatric cardiology service will provide that convenience for children in the Rutherfordton area.”
The clinic will offer a variety of cardiology tests, including electrocardiography (ECG) tests, and provide 24/48-hour Holter Monitors and 30-day Event/Loop Monitors. The clinic will have a mobile pediatric Echo Lab that has been accredited by the Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Echocardiography Laboratories. All imaging studies will be performed by a specially trained pediatric sonographer.
Physicians can choose to involve the cardiologist as a consultant or order tests independent of a physician visit. Parents are able to make an appointment with the cardiologist without the need for a referral from a primary care physician. Typical reasons to see the cardiologist include murmurs, chest pain, fainting, heart racing spells, hypertension or elevated cholesterol/lipids.
